Using VST2 Plugins with Apple Silicon

Some of our older Ableton Live products were built using VST2 plugins, which may require a few extra steps to get working.

VST2 plugins were originally designed for Intel processors. If your computer uses an Apple M-series CPU, then you need to load Ableton Live using Rosetta! (Rosetta enables a Mac with Apple silicon to use apps that were built for a Mac with an Intel processor.)

  1. Find your Ableton Live application, right-click on it, choose "Get Info", and check "Open using Rosetta".

  2. Open Ableton Live, go to Settings > Plug-Ins, and make sure to enable "Use VST2 Plug-In System Folders".

  3. Restart Ableton Live, and then any patches that require VST2 plugins will properly load!
